Who we Serve

Each year, Ready, Set, Read! reaches 10,000+ infants & toddlers and their families at 91 early education centers across the greater Los Angeles area.

Through a dynamic and collaborative partnership with LAUSD’s Early Childhood Education Division, we provide book access, educator supports, and family engagement to prepare children for kindergarten and lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Our Program

BOOKS TO BUILD CHILDREN’S HOME LIBRARIES

Ready, Set, Read! provides children with new, bilingual books to build their home libraries. Focused on high-quality and diverse books, our selections include stories that are windows and mirrors, offering opportunities for children to learn about the world and see themselves reflected back, respectively. We take pride in ensuring families receive books that they’ll enjoy in the days and years to come.

EDUCATOR SUPPORT FOR FAMILY ENGAGEMENT & EARLY LITERACY

Ready, Set, Read! utilizes a train-the-trainer model, preparing EEC educators to deliver the Ready, Set, Read! parent workshops at their school sites. During the summer, we provide multiple professional development sessions for educators, and our team supports educators throughout the academic year by sharing curriculum and ancillary resources, and providing technical assistance.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOPS FOCUSED ON EARLY LITERACY

Ready, Set, Read! provides research-based workshops to parents of children ages 0-5, in partnership with early education centers (EECs) across Los Angeles. Our three bilingual (English/Spanish) parent workshops are offered to parents on site at their child’s EEC and facilitated by educators who receive training from Ready, Set, Read! Our curriculum highlights the vital and valuable role families play in their child’s early learning, from infancy onward.

our focus

1

An abundance of high-quality books to build children’s home libraries. We select books that are visually compelling, spark wonder and imagination, and celebrate diversity.

2

Bolstering principals and educators whose literacy-rich classrooms ignite children’s curiosity and love of learning. Educators welcome families to learn about how to create a strong school-home connection and creative ways to support their children’s learning at home.

3

Family engagement workshops that showcase the vital role families play in supporting their child’s learning and development, from infancy onward. Our workshops inspire and equip families with the knowledge and strategies to create at-home reading routines and also turn everyday interactions into language-rich learning opportunities.
