Salesforce Virtual Book Drive for Ready, Set, Read!

Salesforce is holding its first Virtual Book Drive from 12/1 - 12/15 to help Ready, Set, Read bring NEW BOOK BUNDLES to low-income families and CLASSROOM LIBRARIES to schools in underserved Los Angeles communities!

Providing new books, rather than second-hand ones, communicates to parents and their children the value of reading.

Be part of involving parents in their children’s learning and changing the landscape of their children’s literacy experience by supporting Ready, Set, Read.

About Ready, Set, Read

Ready, Set, Read, a project of Community Partners non-profit, has a mission to promote early childhood literacy development by training parents to read aloud to their young children. Ready, Set, Read partners with elementary schools to provide free bilingual workshop series and new books to low-income parents throughout Los Angeles County and to donate classroom libraries to its school partners. Ready, Set, Read is unique in how it partners with schools and empowers parents to be involved in their children’s learning. Go to Ready, Set, Read’s website to learn more at www.readysetread.org.

How The virtual book drive Works

It’s easy! You make a donation using the Donate button on this webpage and Ready, Set, Read will do the purchasing and delivering of the new books. We have a goal of raising $5,000 for Ready, Set, Read! Your donation will go towards our goal of providing 50 book bundles to families and 5 classroom libraries to partner schools. The more Salesforce employees give, the more book bundles and the more classroom libraries you’ll be donating! Every donation of $50 or more will be matched by Salesforce.*

Why Literacy MAtters

Insufficient exposure to words and language, known as the “word gap,” has a profoundly negative impact on children. Research shows that by the time children enter kindergarten, those in low-income households in the United States will have heard 30 million fewer words than their peers from middle and high-income households. This “word gap” undermines school readiness and performance. Parents play a critical role in helping their children’s literacy development. Ready, Set, Read’s mission is to promote early childhood literacy development by training parents to read aloud to their children. Our program stresses the importance of a parent’s role in a child’s literacy development, ongoing academic success, and overall self-confidence. Our results support decades of research showing that when young children read more at home with guidance from their parents, they become better equipped for school and are much more likely to succeed in life.

What types of books does RSR provide to families and schools?

Books are carefully chosen by the school partners and parent educators to promote dialogic reading skills using techniques parents learn in the Ready, Set, Read bilingual literacy workshops. Quality multicultural and award-winning titles appropriate for children ages 0-6 years old are favored. To learn more about the types of books we provide, please visit our website.

Books for babies, toddlers and Early readers

Books are carefully chosen by the school partners and parent educators to promote dialogic reading skills. We provide access to low-income families and school partners by donating new book bundles to families and new classroom libraries to schools. Children growing up in low-income families are less likely to have books in the home and to read than their peers. We only donate new books as studies show that underserved children benefit from having access to new books in their home and school.
